An application designed to aid the planning and briefing of assaults on ships. 3D models give the people involved a better idea of what to expect compared to traditional bueprints alone. The app makes it easy to view a ship's model from all angles, and, at a tap, highlight key points of interest, in particular entrances and possible rope-down points and aerial obstructions. Users can also view each ship from a top-down orthographic perspective, and see key information like dimensions and (where applicable) pennant numbers.
After trialling early versions of the app with MOD partners, I further developed wthe app with more ships and features. The most recent include the ability to place a dock at four different aspects of each ship for scenarios where a ship is in port, as well as the ability to place, move, rotate and in some cases animate different vehicles and boarding equipment that might be used in an assault.
The app, in both its tablet and Windows/laptop versions, has since been used on multiple MOD exercises.
